Who's the most fashionable dog of all? |

Designer Valentino thought he was the star of the film about his work, "Valentino: The Last Emperor," playing at Kahala Theatres. That may be true among the fashion set, but ask a dog lover, and as far as they're concerned, his pugs stole the show.
At the Web site www.valentinomovie.com, there was even an associated Pug-O-Vision pug contest in which pug owners were asked to enter photos of their dogs, with winners to be selected by Valentino himself.
Out of 475 entries, Ito Montgomery Aldridge-Lungren of San Francisco was the grand prize winner, dressed in a wig and oversized sunglasses a la Anna Wintour. Jolly from New Hampshire finished second. And the third place winners were Blue, Bono and Roxy of Northern California, whose owners, Phillip and Susan Lauer, have Hawaii ties.
"We entered the contest because as a pug owner, Valentino is a kindred spirit. It's a pug thing, I guess; you just have to be owned by one and you would know," Phillip said via an e-mail interview. "And then there is the opportunity to have someone of such stature, an icon of fashion in the 20th century, to look at your work and acknowledge it. OMG, that was prize enough."
The actual prize is a collar from the House of Dog, so the three dogs will have to fight for it, though Susan said if they like it, they'll get matching collars for the other two.
That the couturier owns six pugs doesn't surprise the Lauers.
"We think pugs are better in groups, which might explain why we have three," Phillip said. "A lot of pug owners we know have more than one pug.

Mr. Pugsley did it again.
The 6-year-old smutty Pug walked away with the crown for the curliest tail on Saturday at the sixth annual Green Mountain Pug Rescue Social. For the third time in six years judges chose Mr. Pugsley for the top honor.
"I think his coloring catches their eye," said owner Carlene Hillsgrove, of Danbury, NH, standing next to partner Allan Fligg, with 7-year-old Pug, Samantha. "These are the first two we've had (and) now I've got a house full of Pug stuff."
At least a couple hundred Pugs brought their possessors to Top Notch Field to preen, prance and perform for treats, rewards and each other. Since the Vermont-based rescue was started in 2002, at least 500 Pugs have been adopted out throughout New England.
"We're already in the 80s for 2008, and we've still got three months to go," said Phil Douglas, who was emceeing the event. "We'll undoubtedly adopt more out in 2008 than in any other year."
Like many owners of the smooshed-face sweeties, Green Mountain Pug Rescue founder Karen Powers, of Lyndonville, came by her first Pug inadvertently. She blames acquiring a 13-year-old Pug from a New Jersey pound on her husband. The family pet lived to be 17, and Powers and family have been on a mission for the last six years to join as many abandoned or milled Pugs with willing owners as possible.

Fourth Pug Parliament May 20th |
|
 Parties Reads: 2385 |

The fourth Pug Parliament "Pug Fun in the Sun" event will be held Saturday, May 20th 2006 at 2 pm in Overland Park, KS.
This is an opportunity for Pugs and their owners living in the greater Kansas City area to meet, discuss health and breed issues as well as training and socialization. In turn, we hope to promote good health and breeding practices, and overall Pug awareness and information. We would also like to raise more awareness to the concept of Pug Rescue.

Thanks to all of you who called and sent me de-stinking remedies after you read about Queen Rosy's chance meeting with a skunk.
I found out about special dog shampoos, baking soda concoctions, feminine hygiene solutions and laundry products that could help. I tried them all, and by Saturday, Rosy smelled like a sweet-and-sour pot roast.
I'm afraid Ali Andersen was right. Ali, who has dealt with many skunked dogs, e-mailed to tell me I should not expect miracles.
"Time and many baths are the only things that help," she wrote.
